The National Bank announced the launch of its third annual Sustainability Report, covering the Bank’s performance in 2024 across Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) areas, in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The report reflects the advancement of The National Bank’s commitment to its responsibilities toward society, the environment, and the economy by adopting sustainable practices that integrate good governance principles into its administrative and operational processes, while enhancing innovation, digitalization, and green and responsible finance. The report also highlights initiatives implemented by the Bank in digital transformation, financial inclusion, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and women’s economic empowerment.
The report highlighted new positive indicators implemented by the Bank in 2024, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10% compared to 2023, generating 1.8 million kilowatt-hours of solar energy through the Noor Jericho Solar Power Plant, growing the green finance portfolio by 16.25%, increasing the Bank’s social contributions to 52% of its net profits, and strengthening women’s engagement in leadership positions.
Commenting on the launch of the report, Reem Anani, Public Relations Manager at The National Bank, expressed her pride that the Bank is among the first Palestinian banking institutions to adopt environmental, social, and governance sustainability foundations and integrate them into its operations. She emphasized that this approach enhances institutional performance effectiveness, establishes robust and sustainable business and operational processes, strengthens the Bank’s relationship with the community through effectively responding to its needs, and reinforces principles of good governance. She added that the Bank will continue to strengthen its leading role in applying banking sustainability standards, expand its community programs, and invest in green technology to reduce its environmental footprint and achieve responsible and inclusive economic development.
