Makani Innovation Hub, affiliated with the Ramallah Municipality, and The National Bank launched the first sessions of the “Green City Challenge” program, which aims to strengthen the role of Palestinian youth in developing practical and sustainable solutions to the city’s environmental challenges, especially in the fields of energy, water, waste management, and environmental sustainability, contributing to making Ramallah a greener, and more eco-friendly city.
The event featured the launch of a three-day training bootcamp, implemented in cooperation with Balad Palestine, with the participation of Palestinian youth with entrepreneurial ideas characterized by sustainability. The program provides intensive mentoring to help participants develop their initial ideas within a supportive environment, enabling them to turn these ideas into scalable and applicable models. The solutions will later be presented to a specialized committee that will evaluate them, select applicable ideas, and support them to become practical solutions that enhance the city’s smart and sustainable environmental infrastructure.
In this context, Irene Saadeh, Director of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the Ramallah Municipality, said the program is an important platform for empowering youth to lead environmental innovation in the city. She noted that the Municipality works to promote a culture of green entrepreneurship and provide support to initiatives that improve resource efficiency and strengthen sustainability practices. She added that the “Green City Challenge” reflects the Municipality’s commitment to developing innovative, community-driven solutions that respond to the city’s real environmental needs.
Reem Anani, Public Relations Manager at TNB, also noted that the Bank’s sponsorship of the program aligns with its support of innovation and youth entrepreneurship, and advancing green transition initiatives. She added that the Bank continues its commitment to adopting sustainability principles across all its operations and strengthening partnerships with local and international institutions to contribute to building a sustainable national economy.
